Events in Hanko 2019

Hanko is known for its events. During the summer weeks there are crowds of tennis players, yachtsmen, friends of the theatre, bridge players, motorboat enthusiasts and sea kayakers in the streets, all depending on the week.
In Hanko you can always find something interesting to do. You can choose to explore the city on your own. The tourist office will give you the most update information about what to do on any day.

The Water Tower is a beautiful symbol of Hanko. There is a fantastic view in all directions over the cape of Hanko and the Baltic sea.

6–9.6 Hanko Theater Festival
In Hanko Theater Festival the audience experiences theater in new surroundings. The festival offers 30-50 shows and the stages are situated around the town, in parks, boats and restaurants. Hanko Theater Festival is the biggest Swedish-speaking theater festival in Finland.

14–15.6 Nordic Song Festival
The Nordic Song Festival is a popular event already for 30 years. Artists from Finland and the other Nordic countries gather in the old cosy warehouse in the Eastern Harbour to enjoy good music and an inspiring atmosphere.

Hanko beach volleyball has been arranged annually since 1985, and brings men and women, amateurs and professional players together to play on the beach on the Finnish riviera.

3.7 Rajaton – Summer evening in Hanko
The band Rajaton performs in Hanko church at 19-20.15. Welcome!

5-7.7 EVLI Hanko Regatta
This traditional sailing race is one of the biggest sailing events in Finland, often gathering around 200 participating boats. The Regatta has been held annually since 1945.

8-15.7 Hanko Tennis Week
Hanko is a traditional tennis town. The amateur tennis week is played here yearly in July and has been around since 1951, attracting players from all around the country.

10.7 Picnic in the Casino Park
Enjoy great company, music and a delicious picnic in the Casino Park at 12-17. The event is free of charge.

An art tour to artists’ ateliers.


24–28.7 SeaHorse Week
The annual show jumping competition in a park environment attracts the national top riders from Finland.

27.7 Sleepyhead Day
The tradition of the Sleepyhead Day goes back to the days of Hanko being a popular spa town. A merry carnival dressed in sleepwear awakens the town and throws the Official Sleepyhead of the Year into the fountain at the Casino Park.

29.7-4.8 Scandinavian EB Championships by Mandatum Life
This international senior competition in tennis is played on the famous tennis courts in Hanko.

Local FC HIK arranges a popular soccer tournament for juniors. All the games are played at Rukki Arena.

A weekend filled with jazz and soul in the city’s restaurants. The programme offers native and foreign top artists.

Poker Run is the biggest power boat event in Finland. The event consists of activities both off shore and on shore and attracts a lot of spectators.

10-16.8 Hanko Tennis – ITF Junior Championships

10.8. It’s My Nature – Street theatre
Street theatre performance on the Casino beach on Saturday 10.8 at 14:00. The performance is open for everyone and the theme of the show is nature.

14.8.-1.9. Pekka Vehviläinen – Summer gallery
In the exhibition you can admire paintings of the sea, art posters and postcards. Open Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-16 (closed on Fri 16.8). The address of the gallery is Ratakatu 12-14.

30.8–1.9 Hanko days and the Night of the Bonfires
According to tradition, the ancient fires are lit on the last Saturday of August and contribute to the creating of a unique atmosphere during the Hanko Days, which take place on the same weekend. This unique combination of ancient fires and cultural events around town makes the weekend a special experience for all visitors.

Hanko Photo Festival is inspired by the scenery and the quality of light in Hanko. Shows, lectures and exhibitions for all friends of photography.

The Art Circuit (Konstrundan) opens the doors to artists, craftsmen and designers along the west and south coast of Finland. The Art Circuit offers you the opportunity to get to know art and the people behind the art in the Swedish-speaking regions of Finland.
