Events in Hanko 2017

Hanko is known for its events. During the summer weeks there are crowds of tennis players, yachtsmen, friends of the theatre, bridge players, motorboat enthusiasts and sea kayakers in the streets, all depending on the week.
In Hanko you can always find something interesting to do. You can choose to explore the city on your own. The tourist office will give you the most update information about what to do on any day.

25–27.5 Hanko Garden Days
A garden festival with a wide programme. Taste locally grown food, find wild herbs, try a mindfulness walk or a guided walk in the gardens of the Spa Park.

27.5 MayDay

MayDay is a fun event to start the summer, kicking off the national swimming season with a collective dip in Hanko.

Evening markets in the Eastern harbour
In summer the popular evening markets in the Eastern Harbour are held every Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm during June to August. On Fridays there is a smaller evening market.

7–10.6 Hanko Theatre Festival
In Hanko Theatre Festival the audience experiences theatre in new surroundings. The festival offers 30-50 shows and the stages are situated around the town, in parks, boats and restaurants. Hanko Theatre Festival is the biggest Swedish-speaking theatre festival
in Finland.

15–16.6 Nordic Song Festival
The Nordic Song Festival is a popular event already for 30 years. Artists from Finland and the other Nordic countries gather in the old cosy warehouse in the Eastern Harbour to enjoy good music and an inspiring atmosphere.

Taste Hanko

Taste Hanko restaurant days focus on food,  offering visitors the chance of trying out the restaurants and cafes in Hanko at reasonable prices. Date of the 2018 event is not yet confirmed.

EVLI Hanko Regatta

30.6–1.7 Beach volleyball Hanko Beach 2018
This beach volleyball tournament is arranged on the best beaches in Finland and attracts non professional players from near and far.

6–8.7 EVLI Hanko Regatta
This traditional sailing race is one of the biggest sailing events in Finland, often gathering around 200 participating boats. The Regatta
has been held annually since 1945.

8-15.7 Hanko Tennis 2018
Hanko is a traditional tennis town. The amateur tennis week is played here yearly in July and has been around since 1951, attracting
players from all around the country.

 

SeaHorse-Week

25–29.7 SeaHorse Week
The annual show jumping competition in a park environment attracts the national top riders from Finland.

26-29.7 HangArt
Local artists and organizations open up their ateliers for the public for three days in July. Welcome and make acquintance with Hanko’s art world!

27.7 Sleepyhead Day
The tradition of the Sleepyhead Day goes back to the days of Hanko being a popular spa town. A merry carnival dressed in sleepwear awakens the town and throws the Official Sleepyhead of the Year into the water.

27-29.7. Baltic Sea Cup
Local FC HIK arranges a popular soccer tournament for juniors. All the games are played at Rukki Arena.

30.7-5.8 Scandinavian EB Championships by Mandatum Life
This international senior competition in tennis is played on the famous tennis courts in Hanko.

3–5.8 Poker Run
Poker Run is the biggest power boat event in Finland. The event consists of activities both off shore and on shore and attracts a lot of spectators.

10-12.8 Hanko Soul Jazz Weekend
A weekend filled with jazz and soul in the city’s restaurants. The programme offers native and foreign top artists.

18–20.8 Hanko Sea Kayak Gathering
This event offers workshops, technique clinics and excursions during an intensive three day period. Over 200 kayakers gather on the shore of Tulliranta to enjoy themselves.

1820.8 Hanko Pride 2017
The second Hanko Pride will take place in the heat of August! Welcome to the Finnish Key West – enjoy the superb program in great company, a warm atmosphere, beautiful views and happy faces! Summer, Hanko, Love!

18-20.8 The Art Circuit
The Art Circuit (Konstrundan) opens the doors to artists, craftsmen and designers along the west and south coast of Finland. The Art Circuit offers you the opportunity to get to know art and the people behind the art in the Swedish-speaking regions of Finland.

25–27.8 Hanko days and the Night of the Bonfires
According to tradition, the ancient fires are lit on the last Saturday of August and contribute to the creating of a unique atmosphere during the Hanko Days, which take place on the same weekend. This unique combination of ancient fires and cultural events around town makes the weekend a special experience for all visitors.

25-27.8 Le Petit Festival goes Hanko
Le Petit Festival du Théâtre is a non profit festival and community gathering artists and fans of art all around the world.

Hanko Photo Festival is inspired by the scenery and the quality of light in Hanko. Shows, lectures and exhibitions for all friends of photography.

7.10 The Baltic Sea Marathon
